The Seven Towers Community & Culture Association (STC & CA) recently commissioned a wall mural in Drumtara, Ballymena.

A spokesperson said that the mural would be an excellent way to help educate the youth in the area about their cultural history. The Ulster Defence Regiment played a major part in keeping Northern Ireland from descending into civil war and saved the lifes of countless people from all sections of our community. In doing so many lost their lives and many more carry the injuries they received to this day. To honour this dedication and sacrifice of the brave men and women we chose a UDR theme for the mural. Members of the UDR are s seen as heroes by those that grew up in the ‘Troubles’ and in a small way this mural is not only a thank you for their service but an education tool to our youth who we will ensure do not forget the heavy price the UDR paid.

STC & CA have been giving tours to both Protestants and Roman Catholics from other areas to view their wall murals which have proved to be very popular and well received. The aim is not only to educate our own youth but to show the wider community about our own proud cultural history.

The spokesperson finished by hinting that they are presently looking and hoping to implement other, ideas in promoting cultural issues in the near future
