The Twelfth Celebrations also marked the end of our marching season, allowing us to reflect on 2010 which turned out to be another great year for Garryowen LOL 221.
As a lodge we supported a couple of new parades (new to us) which we have now marked into our yearly calendar. The first was the poignant UDR memorial parade(February) in Belfast for Privates Freddie Starret & James Cummings of 7 10 UDR who were cowardly murdered by the IRA. The day was a period of reflection and a chance to remember the loss of two brave men who made the ultimate sacrifice in defending their country.
The other parade was the Carrickfergus Pageant (June). It turned out to be a
splendid sunny day which began at the Woodburn Orange Hall and was well supported by a large crowd some of who got to see King Billy fall from his horse as the parade ended, thankfully with only his pride dented.
The work also continued throughout 2010 in the fundraising side of things so that we can finance the costs of 2011 and of course the all important matter of the election of officers.
So its onwards & upwards as we look forward to dusting down those collarettes for the new 2011 marching season for as you know there are many streets and roads that need parading
Finally we would like to thank all those who supported Garryowen LOL 221 in their endeavours to keep the Ulster Defence Regiment fresh and alive in the memories of all.
